ARTIST'S PROFILE Trained at the Royal College of Art, Julia Griffiths Jones works with the translation of textile techniques such as stitching, quilting, patchwork, embroidery, into a wire and metal form, changing its original nature and function but retaining the meaning and the decoration. Julia’s phenomenal Textile, Wire and Enamel artwork has been exhibited in leading galleries in Britain and Europe. Julia won the Gold Medal for Craft & Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and has also sold one of her wireworks to the Victoria & Albert Museum for inclusion in their permanent collection. Julia has created many commissions for public spaces including the National Museum of Wales, National Wool Museum and the NHS for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. She has also received prestigious awards including the Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award. Julia has developed her experimental work in wire to be able to create a room within a room, a museum, an installation of suspended objects, in metal, which preserves by its durable nature the visual motifs found in textiles from Wales and Eastern Europe and which will be the result of over thirty years of drawing and research.
