​​ARTIST'S PROFILE

Teena's vessels or sculptures stem from her fascination with natural form, in both content and source. Like waves making patterns on the sand, each piece is unknown and largely unplanned. Teena works with a strong idea of the quality of the piece in hand, attempting to make the work as vivid and powerful as the creative process itself. Unseen and powerful energy forces have shaped our landscape over time; as Teena works with the immediacy of clay and its subsequent process, she intuitively tries to tap into that process.

​It is the sense of the quality or spirit which can transcend the actual piece that Teena is looking for. She is a long-term practitioner of T¹ai Chi Chuan, and its underlying philosophy increasingly informs Teena's work.

​Structure, texture and surface pattern within the clay are derived from a variety of methods and processes. Teena fuses together different colours and textures of clay; into these she inlays porcelains and coloured clays. This is then painted with coloured slips and later oxides and body stains. This gives Teena the language of texture to create form.
